Let’s Do What We Love, And Do A Lot Of It

Earlier this week, I saw this quote on Instagram. It’s pretty short and simple, however I think the message is revolutionary. So often people find themselves stuck in positions they don’t want to be in. They take jobs that pay well, even if it’s something that they don’t love doing. Because of this, we have mass number of people who are unhappy in their jobs.

I don’t know if it’s just the vivacious young liberal college student in me, but I am so set on doing what I love and exploring my passions and finding happiness. Ideally, that job would also make me loads of money, however if it does not, I’d like to think that my happiness is more important than something you can define with an extrinsic monetary value.

This is especially true to people who are interested in the arts, as the “starving artist” stereotype doesn’t just come from thin air. I probably want to go into screenwriting for comedy, which anyone can tell you is an insanely hard profession to “make it” in. However, I don’t care. My roommate last year loved to sing, however she settled with majoring in biology because her dad wants her to become a doctor. I would always just see how miserable she was and it broke my heart.

If you’re not doing what you love, what’s the point? Why are you here? We have one life and you better make the most of it because you’re not going to get another one. Always choose your happiness in your passions over societal or monetary pressures. To put it bluntly, Little Miss Sunshine has a great quote that says “Do what you love and fuck the rest”.
